updates, updates.

So a lot has happened since we last posted about the vegetables singing songs. Logan is now a pro at sitting and laughing. And crawling... and pulling himself up on everything. He is 8 months old now and is so big and so much fun. I can't believe how big he is getting, he's not a little baby anymore! It's kinda sad. People aren't kidding when they tell you to enjoy them when they are little because they grow so fast!

Well this summer has been a good one so far. We had the opportunity to go on a family vacation to St. George and we took a lot of pictures and had a lot of fun. Logan got his first taste of pool water which was pretty funny. He learned pretty quick not to stick his face in the water. He loved it though so now we go to grandmas and play in her kiddie pool and he thinks it's the best thing ever. I think we have a 'little fish' on our hands. He's also become a handful at home. I can hardly keep track of him, he's getting some speed in those little legs of his. It's funny that just when I think we have our house baby-proofed he finds something else to get into that he's not supposed to. It's fun though and we love having him :)

As for us we've just recently received some news that was terrifying and wonderful at the same time. About 2 weeks ago I had gone to the doctor to get "stuff" checked out and so the doctor had me go to the lab to get some blood drawn and then I left. About an hour later I was on a walk with my sister-in-law when I got the call. "Jenny, Christi needs to talk to you" ok... so she got on the phone. "Hi Jenny, blah blah looks fine, and this and that looks fine, but you are pregnant." I of course started bawling and scaring my poor innocent kidless sister-in-law to death. I think she thought I was dying lol. After my break down I pulled it together and told Preston and he just started grinning. He is so so excited and I am too now. It took a while but I am scared still. Our kids will only be 16 months a part! How am I going to do this? I don't know. I just keep telling myself that if God brings you to it, he'll bring you through it!
Well.. I hope so.

Vegetables singing songs

Logan's favorite show is veggietales... mostly because it's my favorite cartoon so that's why he watches it. Have you ever watched it? It really is funny and plus it has good messages so that's what we watch. Anyway, the theme song is super cute and it always gets stuck in my head so I've been singing it to him a lot lately and it makes him grin. Well just the other day we were working on his sitting skills when we started one of the shows and as soon as the theme song started his eyes were stuck on the screen and he would grin. I didn't realize that me singing it to him so much would also work so that when it was on tv he would get all happy too. It was so stinkin cute so we started the show over and caught it on video luckily :)

Logans First Temple Trip

This past weekend Preston, Logan, and I went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Slaughter in Preston. While we were there we decided to take Logan to the Logan temple because he's named after it and Preston and I were married there so it just seemed appropriate to take him. He was pretty sleepy and ready for a nap but regardless we were able to take some pictures and overall it was a fun little outing :)

Rice cereal and prunes

Preston and I have decided that we are going to start feeding Logan baby food a little at a time. We have heard that you can start your baby on baby food around 4-6 months, however, we've also heard that you should wait until they are closer to 6 months to reduce the risk of them developing allergies. The pediatrician did give us the go-ahead though so we decided to start giving him rice cereal once or twice a week to try to get him used to it and then as he gets older and closer to 6 months we will increase the frequency. So earlier this week I tried to give him a little rice cereal and he DID NOT like it so his pediatrician told me that we could try to add a little something in with it like prunes. A couple days later we were going to try again so we added some prunes and that did the trick. He went to town! Needless to say it was pretty funny to watch. Preston was feeding him and he was a mess! He discovered that if he took a bite and then stuck his thumb in his mouth he would swallow it better so after every bite logan would shove his hands in his mouth and then we were done feeding him and hadn't cleaned him up yet, he kept putting his fingers in there because they tasted so sweet. So now it is our thing to give him rice cereal and prunes twice a week and then slowly as he gets older we will mix it up with apples, bananas, string beans, avocado, etc. and expand his edible horizons. Anyway, here are pictures.

So, I realize I have a lot of catching up to do on our blog and that I am not very good at this at all. However, I am doing it now and I caution those who are prone to "ooo's and ahhh's" because this post will contain a lot of such materials.
Logan is now 4 1/2 months old! I can't believe how fast time has flown. He is now able to sit with support and roll over, he is the major thumb sucker, and he loves loves LOVES to take baths. His new favorite game is to lay on the ground and just yell, yell at me, yell at the ceiling fan, just yell to yell. It's adorable. He also adores his daddy. He could be grumpy grumpy but when daddy walks in its all smiles. I love it. I can't really put how precious he is into words or how much I love him so I will just put pictures on because they really do say it all.

All the toys and excitement pooped him right out at christmas!

New Years Eve... Mmm Apple Cider :)

I love him more..

He's playing in one of his favorite toys, he looks like such a big boy :)

"I'm holding my own bottle!"

When Logan learned how to roll onto his tummy in his crib, this became his new favorite sleeping position. So cute :)

Being a big boy sitting in his own chair holding his favorite toy truck.

The smile I LOVE, just like his daddy's.
Logan and Preston have matching shoes and when I was taking pictures of it I snapped this cute one too.

Bathtime

Logan LOVES his baths! At his first bath he was not too happy that we stripped him down and were pouring water all over him but now bath time is his very favorite part of the day! It doesn't matter if he is screaming, as soon as he gets in the water... all is good! He'll even fall asleep! Here are some pictures :) Oh.. And he LOVES his binky! Hence the picture of him holding on to it for dear life. The minute it falls out he'll fuss for it, which gets really annoying... However, it is really nice that when he does get fussy or if he starts waking up i can stick something in his mouth and he'll calm right down

Motherhood

I've been a mom for a little over a month now so in no way do I claim to be an expert, I might not even have earned the right to vent about it this... but I'm going to. I'm not venting about being a mother or about being tired or sore or anything like that... but I want to vent about people who just don't get it. I am however not angry with them because two months ago I was one of those people. It's just so much harder than anyone could ever imagine, they don't realize just how long everything takes now and that you cannot just pick up and go somewhere. As a parent suddenly your choice on what you're going to do on friday night goes away, you don't pick up and go to a movie, you have no more hot steamy dates, not that we did that really in the first place, but still... the CHOICE to do so is gone.
The thing that has inspired this entry was something my dad said to me tonight. He asked if I had taken Logan to visit his secretary yet and I haven't so then he said that I really needed to, which I do and I feel bad I haven't yet but I continued to explain to him that half of the time I'm not all the way ready by the time she gets off work ... and then he laughed and said "She's there until 3:00" Ouch. And so maybe it's because I'm a new mom... or maybe it's because Logan is still so little or maybe both, but still! The point of the matter is that It's a BIG deal to get up in the morning. I'm not angry with him or with anyone who might smirk at the fact that at one in the afternoon I might still be in my pajamas because I know it's just because they haven't been here. I feel like saying, "Oh sorry, am I being rude by not being ready in time? I'm so sorry that I've been up throughout the night with a crying baby and that I then had to feed him and feed me, then get him ready... then feed him again... then ATTEMPT to shower and get myself ready, then feed him and kind of clean up my house or pay bills or do whatever it is that is needed to be done. All the while... he is either spitting out his binky and crying or just wanting to be held OR soiling his pants immediately after changing him. But sorry, I'll hurry next time." It's like seriously? Please please don't lecture me about not being somewhere on time or not having thank you cards written yet or make me feel bad about not having you over to "visit". It's a big deal to have a new born and a big deal to try to get things ready to go somewhere and for me at least a bigger deal and full of more stress to have people over. I'm a kind of a germaphobe when it comes to Logan and I think that is understandable. Ugh. I don't know, I love my family and I love my friends and I'm grateful for their support and love for us but it's hard sometimes. I know that I was so completely ignorant before I was a mother and so I know that their ignorance just comes from not having been a mother and for my female friends... you will one day know what I mean. Until then, please have patience and understanding for my 1:00 pm pajama'ed self :)

*Disclosure: In NO way am I complaining about being a Mother. Becoming a mother has been the most wonderful thing I have ever and will ever be blessed enough to experience. I wouldn't change it for all of the hot steamy dates in the world!
